Creating a new website with SEO in mind? (Introduction)
by Jonathan on Dec.13, 2008, under SEO
Most people don’t realize but when you are developing a website you should do it with marketing in mind. Specifically search engine optimization (SEO), most of the time when a corporation or a large business develops a website for a new product or brand they are marketing they hire an SEO firm to consult their designers on how they should layout the site and develop the code.
When a search engine like google or yahoo index your website they don’t see it the way your end user or a person would see it if they were to go to your site. The way a search engine would see it is for example if you were to go to a website and right click on the browser window and choose the “view source option”. Depending on how the site is developed on the code level you can put your content higher on the page or lower on the page. Now you will want the content high on the source verses lower. This is because when a search engine indexes your site it will give your pages a relevancy and quality score based on how frequently and how prominent your keywords are in your content. Keep in mind your content should have between 550 and 700 words with your primary keywords speckled throughout it. Your keywords should also be with in your title tag and meta keyword tags.
The best technologies to develop a website for SEO purposes are currently CSS and PHP. The use of a lot of graphic links is discouraged, their are SEO friendly techniques to place an image behind a text link to achieve a similar effect though CSS however if you do not know CSS and you don’t have a lot of time to spend learning it perhaps you should consider just using a text link or using a pre-built script from HotScripts or another online script source.
